Eruption of Colima Volcano

Eruption of Colima Volcano

Mexico’s most active and dangerous volcano, Colima, has been producing plumes of steam and ash off and on since late December 2004. This image, captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on NASA’s Terra satellite, is from January 8, and it shows Colima in the center of the scene. A twisting plume of what is probably ash and steam rises above the summit of the volcano.

NASA image created by Jesse Allen, Earth Observatory, using data obtained from the MODIS Rapid Response team.
