Missouri Breaks Complex Fire

Missouri Breaks Complex Fire

In eastern Montana, the Missouri Breaks Complex Fire burned more than 100,000 acres in late July 2003. This image of the charred landscape was captured by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) on August 2. In this false-color image, water is deep blue, vegetation is shades of green, naturally bare ground (or very low vegetation) appears light purple, nad the burned area south of the Missouri River appears charcoal.
