Fires in Baja California

One large and a few smaller fires were detected near the US-Mexico border in the Mexican state of Baja California Norte on July 1, 2003. The largest fire is actually a group of four fires (see high-resolution image) burning in the foothills of the Sierra de Juarez mountains, southeast of Tijuana, which makes a grayish patch on the Pacific Coast at the U.S.-Mexico border. Other fires are visible farther south.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS? maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
