This image from March 9, 2003, shows widespread biomass burning (red dots) across Myanmar (center) and surrounding countries in Southeast Asia. Smoke is pooling between ridges and in low-lying areas. Countries shown are Bangladesh (left), India (top left), China (top right), and Thailand (bottom right). The large river running north-south through Myanmar is the Irrawaddy River.

The high-resolution image provided above is 500 meters per pixel. The MODIS Rapid Response System provides this image at MODIS’ maximum spatial resolution of 250 meters.
