Fires continue to burn in New South Wales and Queensland, Australia. This true-color image was captured by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) on the Terra satellite on November 5, 2002. The southernmost fires (red dots) in the image are burning in the forest north of Sydney, whose metro area makes a tan clearing amid the forested terrain. Farther north, fires are burning in the Darling Downs region near the border of New South Wales (bottom) and Queensland (north).
